Direbear is an interesting territorial creature in ARK Survival Evolved! This animal plays various awesome roles in the game and you can even use it as a companion, make it follow you around and use it for plenty of purposes. Let’s find out all information about Direbear, ranging from the basic dossier, stats, to combat, strategy and so on.

Basic Info

Dossier

Wild: Arctodus Dirus is mostly found on the mountain or in some tundra regions of the island. It’s an amazing creature that primarily turns up in the colder locations, which is just like other creatures. It’s a specific mammal that can reach the peak of the food chain of that region.

Domesticated: Direbear is a powerful and trustworthy mount after being domesticated. It’s able to bear many goods, or capable of running for a very long period. Although it’s not the quickest animal, it still gets a sustained overland speed. If you feed it with meat and plantlife, you can make it comfy no matter how the environment is.

Known Information: It has been called a Direbear by many on this island, and this name can be very suitable because of its massiveness and territorial behavior. Direbear doesn’t always keep an eye on other non-aggressive creatures when it’s out for scavenging, hunting for meat or other plantlife. However, it’s willing to launch attacks to the intruders when they get into its realm. You should try to escape away from a furious Direbear!

Behavior

Since the Direbear is an omnibore, it’s able to swallow both berries and meat. This is a territorial creature and willing to assault if its space is being trespassed. Its charging mechanic is just like Pachy’s or Woolly Rhino’s. It’s able to control at high speeds, and it takes a certain period of time to lose some stamina by a powerful amount. Direbear has a trivial swipe assault and it can utilize that attack to pick up a lot of berries or take out some meat from a creature. Using this swipe will help it deal extra damage, but the movement will be stopped. Having the hind legs, the Direbear is able to stand on them (Press key C for crouching)

Appearance

The Direbear doesn’t like to see any survivors wandering around in the frozen locations of the game. It bears the resemblance to a grizzly bear in the outside look, but the Direbear can be realized by the shorter snout, which brings it a cute nickname “Short-faced Bear”. Similar to other usual bears, they are able to stand on the hind legs, however, they do so only to threaten the ones that intrude their realm.

Color Scheme and Regions

This part will show the congenital colors and regions of Direbear. To get an indication, you can check out some areas below that are painted in red on a white Direbear. The painted squares below every region’s description are known as the colors that this creature will generate at random in order to give out a general scope of its congenital color scheme. Move your mouse cursor over a color to see the name and ID.

Color scheme info is straightly extracted from ARK DevKit and it should be seen accurate.

The server admins can utilize this region info in the command like this “cheat SetTargetDinoColor ”

For instance, using “cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6” would help paint the back and head magenta of Direbear.

  2. The absolute Base Damage is displayed here rather than the percentage.
  3. The movement speed of untamed creatures won’t be developed and leveled up.
  4. Torpor develops every single level on the untamed creatures, but it can’t be developed after they are domesticated.

Wild Stats Level-up

You can check out the stats that it’s stressed by inputting the values of that untamed creature. Green values on one that is at a high level will be considered as very great for breeding. If you’re done domesticating your creature, you can regain the breeding-stats by using this useful offline tool called ARK Stats Extractor.

201016-3

Remember, after being tamed, the creature will receive bonuses on several stats based on the taming success. This causes it to be difficult to take back the levels on a domesticated creature. Therefore, this tool is only used for untamed ones.

Favorite Food

Since Direbear is an omnivore, here are some its favorite foods:

  • Kibble (Carno Egg)
  • Raw Prime Meat
  • Cooked Prime Meat
  • Raw Meat
  • Cooked Meat
  • Vegetables
  • Berries

KO Strategy

Using any taming strategy will make your domestication effective, such as using taming pens, picking up or staying still on the rocks. You need to ensure that it won’t be on the low ground since the high base damage will finish with your character quickly.

To be sure that you can launch the narcotic shots perfectly, you should construct a wall or a platform then start to fire them from there without being attacked from the Dire Bear. You must know that Direbear doesn’t have high health as opposed to torpor, meaning its torpor is very high. It’s very significant to observe the amount of Tranquilizer Arrows because if you don’t, you may accidently kill the Direbear. For example, you are unable to use tranquilizer arrows if the levels are over 16. In this case, you should utilize Tranquilizer Darts.

Combat

Be able to get stuck between the rocks or even trees. Try to maintain a good distance and move around. Shouldn’t rush directly!

General

Direbear is known as a powerful and territorial creature. You will be safe when you come across it, just don’t get closer to it, or else it will assault you. The longer it rushes, its speed can be increased, which is just like a Woolly Rhino. But in the wild, apparently, Direbears don’t utilize this skill.

Strategy

Try to stay on the high ground when you’re about to fight against the Direbear! It can destroy you easily if it’s able to approach you. If you are not hostile and want to run away, just do that because these creatures can lose aggro effortlessly.

Weaponry

You should utilize ranged weapons! Stand on a high ground and then launch it from a far distance. Don’t use melee weapons because they are very deadly. However, utilizing high-tier armor or shields can be less perilous.

Dangers

Direbears are kind of quick and possess a very powerful melee assault. When you get involved in a battle against it, you need to stay watchful all the time. Be cautious when you are trying to release them in a pen using a Quetzal, because the Direbears can assault occasionally while they are being brought and they can consume the health of your Quetzal.

Weakness

Because of giant size, they can be shot from afar easily.

Utility

Roles

War Mount: Direbears have awesome damage and speed

Gatherer: Direbears are good at collecting Fiber, they can even gather some meats too. But they are not great at picking Berries, Hide, and Chitin.

All-Purpose Mount: Direbear is an adaptable mount that is able to run very fast and bear a bunch of stuff. It takes a long period of time or a long distance to become weary. When you are under attack, Direbear is able to protect you because it possesses a strong primary assault and a destructive secondary assault, dealing up to 65 damage. Direbear is also able to collect foods for you and itself. You should try to tame Direbears and use these creatures for good purposes.

Travel Mount: Direbears are extremely fast, especially when its speed is full, that’s when it can run more quickly than a Procoptodon, or even Gallimimus. It’s completely able to travel and drag goods due to its amazing stamina and high weight.

Transport: Direbear has a lot of carry weight and this stat can be improved over time, which will make the bear an amazing moving storage unit.

Companion: You can use a tamed Direbear as a companion, let it follow you around, and surely you won’t feel lonely anymore.

Passive Capabilities

Insulation: Similar to Dimetrodon, when you are next to a Direbear, it can give you 50 hypothermic and hyperthermic insulation, which will reduce depended on the distance between you and Direbear.

Notes/Trivia

The dossier was officially launched on November 2, 2015

Direbear emerges from the species Arctodus, which consists of various short-faced bears. These creatures are known as one of the largest earthly mammal carnivores.

When Arctodus stands on four legs, it can be up to 6 feet tall, when standing on the hind legs, it can be eight feet. It’s known as the quickest species of the bear due to this feature.

Arctodus was even called the Running Bear once because of the long legs that can totally make it sprint huge distances.

Direbears are mostly found in mountains and tundras according to what dossier claimed, but apparently, this creature is more likely discovered in southern rivers.

The Direbear is able to move into the Central Cave provided that you construct a small base-and-ramp structure.

You can help Direbear stand on its hind legs for the time being by pressing crouch key, but seemingly, this is not an assault yet.
