The Doedicurus (dee-dih-CURE-us) or also shortly called “Doed” is one of the famous mammals turning up in ARK Survival Evolved. It’s such a precious effective animal, and it’s kind of good at collecting stone. You should try to have this creature nearby you during the encirclement on an opponent base because it can defeat the walls, which is kind of like what Pachy does. They have such a high health, powerful tail, and a capability to coil after they have obtained a certain damage point. You should try to domesticate this powerful creature!

Basic Info

Dossier

Wild: Doedicurus custosaxum is not a hostile herbivore that inhabits the island. You can find it on some mountains and grasslands. It’s very big and well-armored. There is a supply of fat right below the plats to make it warm in winter. Doedicuris is a flexible creature to any threats of this island; maybe they are even more adaptable than the Ankylosaurus.

Domesticated:  Doedicurus is such a valuable animal that is good at working on the island. Due to its spiky tail, it can break the big rocks, which makes it a useful quarry worker. If their quarry is attacked, the riders of this creature will have a mount that is very tough to kill.

Known Information: Doedicurus has two discrepant responds to the deadly predators. To counter smaller enemies, it usually utilizes its spiky tails to cause damage to them. To counter bigger opponents, it will pull out the tail to create a strong armored ball which is almost infeasible for the creatures to punch.

Behavior

The Doedicurus will assault when being evoked. Once giving out a strong amount of damage, it will run into a defended shell that will decrease the damage you give to it. After creating enough energy to feel secure, it will uncoil, and there will be a chance for the survivor to find that they are being hunted by a revengeful Doedicurus except for when they can escape away from the realm of creature fast enough or cause it to lose the interest.

This creature will only run into its defended shell after 2/3 of its health has been vanished away.

Appearance

Like the Armadillo, the Doedicurus’s size is kind of tiny; it’s around 3-4 meters in length, and its height is around 1-2 meters. The size doesn’t matter, and it won’t obstruct the skill of this creature in the fight, because of its thick spiky shell and an ideal tail, the creature can become a hard prey for the bigger creatures. Like the Ankylosaurus for defense, this is one of the creatures that were kind of well-armored. It can keep it secure from dangerous groups of Sabertooths. There is a blue variant too, but this one is very rare.

Color Scheme and Regions

This is the part that will illustrate the primary colors and regions of Doedicurus. For the indicative purposes, the areas below are painted red on an albino Doedicurus. The painted squares depicted the below illustration of each area are the colors which the creature will create at random for giving a general scope of its primary color scheme. Move your mouse cursor on a color to find out a name and ID.

The color scheme information is extracted from the ARK DevKit, and it should be accurate.

Server admins are able to utilize this region information in the Console Command “cheat SetTargetDinoColor “.

Like, using this “cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6” will paint the shells and plates magenta of the Doedicurus

Movement Speed

  • Above are the base speeds of the creature that are all at 100% Movement Speed
  • To obtain a comparison between all speeds of creatures, check out Base Creature Speeds.

Wild Stats Level-up

To check out the stats that are pinpointed, just input the values of an untamed creature. The green values on a creature that has a high level mean that it’s very great at breeding. If you succeeded in domesticating a creature, you could regain the breeding-stats by utilizing this tool called ARK Stats Extractor

Stat Value Levelups
Health 450 0
Stamina 240 0
Food 1500 0
Weight 350 0
Melee Damage [%] 100 0
Speed [%] 100 ~0

After domestication, the creature can get some bonuses on several stats relying on the taming success. This will cause it to be very tough for regaining the levels on a domesticated creature. Hence, this tool can only work on untamed creatures, but it can bring such a wonderful impression, how well the stats are given out.

Taming

Doedicurus are so into any the Advanced Crops, like Citronal, Savoroot, Longrass, and Rockarrot) they prefer them to berries when they are domesticated. If there are not any advanced crops, Doedicurus will like Mejoberry more than other berries. It will take the player a long time to domesticate Doedicurus using mejo or usual berries. Hence, you should spend more kibble if you can.

8

You should always remember that the values are optimum cases, they always carry additional supplies.

You can check out an external taming calculator to get a level-dependent count of the resources required.

Ingredients for   Kibble (Dilo Egg): 1 ×   Dilo Egg , 1 ×   Citronal , 1 ×   Cooked Meat Jerky , 2 ×   Mejoberry , 3 ×   Fiber , 1 ×   Waterskin

KO Strategy

Because they have high torpor, it’s very hard to defeat this creature, and they can bear a big amount of Tranquilizer Arrows. When they are coiled in their defended shell and stay unmoved, they can get 90% decreased torpor and damage. You can defeat this creature by utilizing Longneck Rifle and Tranquilizer Darts with a somewhat danger of it coiling, which causes it to be more effortless to domesticate. A possible KO tactic includes withdrawing from the Doed while releasing your Tranq method continuously.

Basic Strategy

If you don’t have a long neck rifle, you can utilize a bow or a cross bow instead. Try to withdraw gently while trying to shoot arrows at its head. Once it coils, you can stop shooting and wait a bit till it uncoils, the torpor will decrease, but that won’t be sufficient to defeat possibly. You need to wait for it to uncoil!

Combat

This is the part that will show you how to battle against the Doedicurus.

General

Chasing down and hunting this Doedicurus won’t be profitable at lower levels because it has the skill to coil into a defended ball. If offers a good source of meat, hide, and keratin after being domesticated.

Strategy

If you utilize tranquilizer darts before assaulting can make low and average level Doedicurus senseless effortlessly, and if it gets stunned, you can annihilate it easily. Another tactic is that you can walk in, assault and escape away until it uncoils. This will take time, but this method is not recommended. You can try another one is that if you are nearby any water, just make it angry and lure it into the water. After that, you can make it coil a ball and then it will get drowned.

Weaponry

After the Doedicurus has coiled into its defensive shell, using a pike won’t even work so other weapons won’t be useful either. But apparent, the longneck rifle and tranquilizer darts can be an effective method, and they can kill it easily because a senseless Doedicurus won’t be able to roll into its defensive shell.

Dangers

After the assault, most of the Doedicurus will coil into an armored ball, but they hardly have been seen to assault. A furious Doedicurus is not to be dallied in the close fight.

Weakness

The fastest and the most useful ways of killing it is to utilize Tranquilizer and then defeat this creature.

Also, it will get drowned when it coils in the water because it will sink into the water and stay there until it drowns.

Utility

This creature swims very fast. You are unable to roll or assault while it’s swimming and it will finish that action after going in deep water

Doedicurus can become a wonderful ATV because of their rolling skill faster. They can swim well too and have the skill to break large rocks easily. This utility can be upgraded if you keep developing its stamina and movement speed.

Defensive Shell

Doedicurus will coil when the health is decreased under 2/3 of its maximum. They won’t obey the commands while coiled if you ride a Doedicurus, you can reverse its desire to hide.

When they coil, they can get 90% decreased torpor and damage and stay unmoved. The turrets will keep firing at a Doedicurus if it is coiled.

Rolling

While you are riding on a Doedicurus, hit ‘Alt Fire’   for rolling. While rolling, you can’t turn on/off running, and your skill of switching the direction may get vanished. Hit ‘Alt Fire’   again to finish rolling.

Collectibles

Doedicurus will collect stones voluntarily while they are roaming around or if you force them too.

Notes/Trivia

The Dino Dossier was launched on 07/08/2015

Doedicurus can coil into an armored ball and then roll around even if an attacker sits or stands on its back. This is the creature that can do anything to this in the game

“Pestle-tailed stone warden” is the phrase that was translated from its complete name, Doedicurus custosaxum, which is a reference to its usage in collecting stone and protective skills.

Doedicurus is a member of a troop of armadillo-like mammals called Glyptodonts.

Different from the Ankyolosaurus, the Doedicurus are not able to utilize its melee assault while being brought by a Quetzal

A Doedicurus that has Wandering Disabled parked at the head of a raft is able to collect unbelievable amounts of stone for the player. The creature will sway at rocks when they traverse, and his burden will become so inappropriate. This makes up for the incapability to surpass his burden with a Quetzal, which was mentioned above.

The Doedicurus that has coiled into a protective ball won’t uncoil if it learns that it is right below the water and will drown quickly.

Blue Doedicurus can seldom step into the wild. Together with their skill of coiling into a spiked balled and attack the enemies is the indicating to the video game with a character named Sonic the Hedgehog whose skills is to coil into his enemies as an armored ball.
