Gigantopithecus is a famous giant ape that appears in ARK Survival Evolved. Domesticating this creature as well as tackling with its attacks are very tough and it will take some skills to become good. It’s time for you to explore the untamed life of this creature and find out more information about it!

Basic Info

Wild: Gigantopithecus fibrarator is such an odd species in the game. It normally stays passive but it’s kind of quick-tempered when approaching its private zone. If there is another creature getting closer, this large creature will instantly turn into a furious beast.

Domesticated: Aside from staying at home collecting more berries, you can teach a domesticated Gigantopithecus to gather the fibers that existed on some of the island plants. Seemingly, it’s kind of satisfied to collect all day, swallow the berries and keep the fibers for the tribes. It’s very frisky after being domesticated. Apparently, he likes tossing the rider that sits on its shoulder up in the air. This can be a game to this creature, but the other smart thieves will take advantage of this game to hop over the walls and small cliffs.

Known Information: Gigantopithecus is probably blissful when being an idler, collecting berries from plants. Some of them only want to spend their day in a small location except when they are evoked.

Gigantopithecus roam around the jungles and swallow berries of bushes. They are kind of tranquil creatures but if you assault or try to domesticate them, they will start countering. These creatures usually generate as individuals and they are kind of outspread, so you won’t normally catch sight of troops of them in the forest. They mostly live in jungles, but they sometimes roam around far away from forests and sometime you can see them on the beaches or rivers or mountains.

After the launching of the Snow Cave in Patch 237, a wonderful variant of Gigantopithecus has appeared and it was called Yeti. They are apes that can’t be domesticated and they will offer the Gigantopithecus Dossier when being destroyed, and they only get into the snow cave at higher levels, even up to 340. These creatures are very hostile that will attack any people who enter their realm. Stay away from them or you can utilize strong guns to kill them before they get the upper hand on you.

Gigantopithecus is a close cousin to the orangutan nowadays. But, when it stands on 2 legs, it can be tall like a human, which is kind of similar to Bigfoot or Yeti.

Color Scheme and Regions

This part will illustrate the natural colors and regions of the Gigantopithecus. For indicative purposes, the below sections are painted red on an albino Gigantopithecus. The colored squares that are displayed below every illustration of the area are the colors which the creature will make at random in order to offer a general range of its genius color scheme. You can show its name and ID by moving the mouse cursor on a color

The Yeti always starts with the white regions.

Color scheme detail is extracted from ARK DevKit and it should be accurate.

The region information can be utilized by the server admins in the console command “cheat SetTargetDinoColor “.

For instance, “cheat SetTargetDinoColor 0 6” would paint and decorate the fur mane magenta of Gigantopithecus

To check out the stats that are pinpointed, just input the values of an untamed creature. The green values on a creature that has a high level mean that it’s very great at breeding. If you succeeded in domesticating a creature, you could regain the breeding-stats by utilizing this tool called ARK Stats Extractor

Stat Value Levelups
Health 450 0
Stamina 240 0
Food 1500 0
Weight 350 0
Melee Damage [%] 100 0
Speed [%] 100 ~0

After domestication, the creature can get some bonuses on several stats relying on the taming success. This will cause it to be very tough for regaining the levels on a domesticated creature. Hence, this tool can only work on untamed creatures, but it can bring such a wonderful impression, how well the stats are given out.

You should always remember that the values are optimum cases, they always carry additional supplies.

You can check out an external taming calculator to get a level-dependent count of the resources required.

Ingredients for   Kibble (Titanoboa Egg): 1 ×  Titanoboa Egg , 1 ×   Longrass , 1 ×   Cooked Meat Jerky, 2 ×   Mejoberry , 3 ×   Fiber , 1 ×  Waterskin

Taming Strategies

Like Ichthy, you need to domesticate Gigantopithecus using your hand to feed it instead of utilizing the tranquilizers. You are required to be at level 30 so that you can feed on, after that, you need to put the suitable food in the slot that is in the right of your hotbar, and approach the creature so that the button prompt pops up. This creature will grab one piece of food and he will be eating. Then, you have to wait for him to be hungry again by the time you feed him with your food once again. You will need to spend some time for this process, which relies on the level and the food.

If you touch Gigantopithecus as you try to feed it, it will instantly assault you. If that happens, you need to stay away from and be out of its sight so that it can calm down and you can feed it once again. The taming process will remain even if it assaults you. However, your taming effectiveness will be gone if you counter it.

Stay watchful when you get closer to Gigantopithecus while you are feeding it because it will switch its directions at random or even stop, which will make you crash into it easily. You should get closer to it from the back as it stands because it won’t normally turn back around while roaming. You can bend down to feed it, with that position, it won’t assault you when you bend down

If you want to escape away, you should carry a flying mount because you can ride on it and fly above the Gigantopithecus. He won’t chase you back will give that up instantly. If you don’t have any flying mount, you can use some quick ground mounts like Raptor or something like that instead.

Taming Box

A good way to defeat Gigantopithecus is to trap this creature in a small room that has no roof, or hatchframe. After that, you can feed it with food easily without getting anxious about coming across it or getting it roam around, also, the untamed carnivores will get a harder time to reach it.

You can trap this creature straightly on a certain spot so that the camera will stay unmoved throughout the taming process.

That spot will need one base, two fence bases, and five door frames. On the base, you need to put one fence bases straightly on the corner of it, then snap the second one to the other one so it places on the base in a diagonal way. Now, the base is divided into two triangles, you need to keep in mind that the triangles have discrepant sizes and the larger one will become the possible taming zone. You need to have door frames on each side so that you can entice the Gigantopithecus into the box easily. After baiting it into the box, shut down the final side that is opening, and then he will move in the box. You are supposed to hold the door frame and keep it planned at the fence base diagonally and put it sooner. Once putting it, the creature is nearly impossible to move

When you feed him using your hand, you shouldn’t keep standing on the base since you may have risky chance to get him angry. You are highly suggested to stand on the ground right beside it and bend down a bit. Doing so will help you feed him without any issues.

Constructing material

You should utilize stone since he can get angry easily, but if you care about this enough, the wooden structures can be enough.

Tempting into the box

It’s kind of tough to release the creature into the box using a flying mount and you can only do that with a Quetzal, it will be much more effortless to tempt him into it. You need to keep one box’s side open first, and then put a doorframe on the opposing side. After drawing his attention, you need to go into the box, take it easy and let him get close enough, then, you should move through the door frame and shut the opposing side with an extra wall.

Losing aggro

To make its aggro vanished, you need to traverse in a vertical way until you get to the skybox and come back immediately. It’s not commended to traverse horizontally to lost his interest since you may a teleporting bug that allows it to leave or probably respawn.

Occasionally, it’s probably still angry and ready to assault the box when coming back. In this situation, make sure all wall or door structures are replaced when it assaults.

Utilizing a Quetzal

Utilizing the Quetzal method can help you domesticate the Gigantopithecus, but it needs 2 people. The first one has to bring the Gigantopithecus with the Quetzal, and then float closer to the ground. While you are carrying it, you can feed it and it won’t be a high chance for this creature to assault you. If you approach too close, you may still get punched but that won’t have an effect on the taming process or make it angry. The Quetzal can glide through, hence, when you ride on it, you only alter its position sometimes. You should bring some stimberries or Quetzal food to keep it flying in the air.

Human Throwing

When you sit in a Gigantopithecus, and hit the Alt-Fire button (use right mouse), this creature will throw you forward. You can use this way to jump over the walls without demolishing them. You need to stay watchful because this can make the Gigantopithecus melee assault straightly ahead of it, which demolishes anything or any person in the formed path.

Tank: It’s a perfect tank because of its high HP and skill to put on any sort of helmet. (Rank up in Health and Damage)

Damage: It has nice AOE, destroying scaling and knockback. With its knockback, it can drive back a Brontosaurus gently. (Rank up in Damage, Health and Speed gently)

Transport: It has a reasonable base carrying capacity but nothing ridiculous. It has nice base speed which is the same as a player with no any speed improvements. (Rank up in Speed, Stamina, and Weight)

Gatherer: It can collect fiber, thatch, and wood. When you are not on it, it can collect fiber in such a passive way, the fiber will be collected from plants in several surrounding areas, or, it can use the skill to roam around to collect fiber constantly. (Rank up in Damage, Weight, and Stamina)

Underwater Mount: It is really quick and strong when underwater. It possesses high damage and AOE and it can use them to wipe out big hordes of mantas and get rid of any disturbing Ichthys from driving you around and cutting off walkways. (Level yo in Oxygen, Damage, and Health)

This part will show you how to battle against the Gigantopithecus.

The creature possesses a decent health and assault, because it always stays passive until you approach it. It can dodge easily if you don’t know how to deal with it!

Gigantopithecus possesses a decent amount of knockback, you can utilize it to your advantage if you’re utilizing ranged weapon as well as get kind of nice armor or energy. You need to continue moving backwards while assaulting it using ranged assaults, and you just utilize the knockback if it strikes you in order to bring you more distance to constantly assault them.

A good way to destroy this creature is to utilize a Quetzal to hold up the Gigantopithecus.

An untamed Gigantopithecus is kind of passive, but if you come across it while trying to use berries to domesticate, it will assault you instantly! Hence, stay watchful and do not approach it too close.

Strength is its drawback! It can strike you back but if you stay alive, you will get a chance to escape away from it. When you’re far away from it enough, it will neglect you and you can try to domesticate it once again if you want.
